Spiral - Game Boy Music ROM
A downloadable Music ROM
This is a music ROM I've made for the Game Boy Competition 2021. It consists of a single song, and should be fully compatible with Game Boy hardware! I would recommend running the ROM in BGB, as it seems to have issues in other emulators. (Note: the demo video is footage from Deflemask, and the actual ROM has no visuals)
This was made entirely using Deflemask, and you can download the Deflemask project from this page.

Nice job! Sounds like it could be on Mario Land 2 or something
Thanks!
If it helps, I started out using Famitracker for chiptune and learned primarily from these tutorials: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLW08UHPY2AEoWhZJVfaE4tUF9jpso8KI0. A lot of the basics are similar between different tracker programs, so I found this info useful in Deflemask, which is what I now use for chiptune (mainly because it supports Sega Genesis sound). Or you might prefer more modern software that isn't tracker-based, which is probably a different story!
Nice, "Toll" is probably my favourite!
I am indeed ;)
Love the song!! I've popped it on my flash cart for gameboy pocket, even recorded it too. But have no way of sending it to you on here to show you. Would love to know more about how you programmed it all too.
Hey, thanks!
There's some contact info on my website (https://www.mattjhart.co.uk/), I'm interested to see what you've recorded if you send me message by email or Discord!
As for how I made it, it was entirely made in Deflemask, which is what I use for chiptune stuff nowadays (I use it mostly because it lets you use Mega Drive sounds). So I just inputted all the notes in that and it lets you export it as a .gb ROM file. I'm not aware if there's currently a way to export music from Deflemask in a way that can be used in GBstudio to allow me to make a more customised ROM, hence why my ROM is visually very simple!
That's cool, I did a little looking into it and it looks great. Maybe something to invest in once I get some money in. I'll send it over to you through discord now.
